1962 C10 Pickup - you get what you pay for

September 2018 - I had just started a new job and had been aching to get a manual vehicle for months. Got to drive a couple of early 60s C10s, but my bank didn't want to give me a car loan for such an old car. Missed out on some amazing $3-4k deals, but you can't win 'em all.

One day I see a good-ish condition 62 C10 for $1000 an hour away. I give the guy a call and he says someone's buying it the next day for a couple of hundred and some guns. But he needs the money stat, so if I swing by that evening the truck is mine. I kind of got my first Deliverance sort of vibe since coming to the US when I went to look at the truck, but everyone ended up being super nice and helpful and they even towed the truck back to my town for just the price of the truck.

I think it looks much better during the day.

Sadly, a lot more issues are prominent during the day. While it was only supposed to have a couple of body bolts missing it turned out that the brake lines were completely shot. The oil filter was missing its oil lines so while I was trying to be cheap and build the oil lines on the cheap Fastenal kept losing my orders for the fittings. I sprained my wrist pretty badly during that time too.

Long story short, truck got towed out of my apartment complex while it was on jack stands one fine day in December. After considering just leaving the truck with the wreckers I got it out for a lot of money and put it in storage for the winter.

In spring 2019 as I get excited to work on my truck again I find out winter has not been at all kind to my truck. What I considered fixable rust damage is now "I am afraid to get in the cab" rust damage.

Lucky for me though I find someone in my town selling a 62 Apache without an engine and transmission. The guy ended up being really nice to work with and I end up purchasing just the cab and doors (plus clean title, disassembly, and delivery!) for $450. We are back in business!

So, after finally finding a garage someone is willing to lease to me, I got the bad boy towed to my garage and have been working on it for the past 2 months.
