To comment on a couple things reading through the thread,
The crown vic/grand marquis weighs just as much as your truck if you put somebody in all the seats, so strength isn't going to be an issue. My grand marquis crosses the scales at 4150 pounds with me in it and my usual trunk load.

The rack and pinion steering is 2003MY and up.

Brakes are virtually the same size as the stock truck brakes, ~12" diameter. 4 piston calipers. The pre '95/watts link cvgm is rated to tow 5000 pounds with smaller brakes. I wouldn't be concerned about stopping ability.

Front springs: if it comes from a cop car, you have 1050lb/in springs--inline with the truck extra HD front coil springs. Passenger cars are significantly more forgiving. Can dig out the numbers if anybody wants.
