Why would you smooth and shave everything on your project and then cut in a fuel door? Counter-intuitive........
As far as gear in the bed, heavy things go to the front, light things in the rear. Simply lift out of the way, fill with gas, and replace. Not too hard to do, unless you are moving gravel.
