It has nothing to do with looks but more to do with ease of use. I'm short, I'm fat I'm old. Leaning over a tailgate or fender to get gas into a bed mount is too much work for me. Heck I can't even lean over to get the bag of dog food out of my truck without opening the tail gate. Also if I have a brain fart and spill some fuel I prefer it to be on the concrete at the gas station than in the back of my truck.
