I would stay with the original style short water pump and also an original replacement starter. No need for any special clutch, just a stock style 11" clutch should be fine as long as you have a 168 tooth flywheel. Oh and have the flywheel surfaced.
When you say original style do you mean flow rate as well. I know edelbrok makes the same short style in a high flow, and I'm a sucker for black parts so I sure thought about stretching the budget there.

Thanks for the tip on the flywheel I actually never thought about that!!
