It also depends on spring rates. One company's 5" spring might have a lower spring rate to allow it to compress more than another company's 6" spring that has a higher spring rate when hitting bumps, or being loaded down.
That being said, my only experience with drop springs has been with Early Classic's 6" drop springs for the rear. I cut down my bump stops with no notch and never bottomed out unless it was loaded down and I was driving like an @ss. I did add 2" lowering blocks later with a CPP bolt-in notch and it was even better then.
