To make it easier to pull the output shaft and to install the 2wd output shaft You can pull out the 3/4 clutch hub, sunshell, and sun gear. Leaving the center support/low and reverse clutches/rear planet and ring gear in the trans case.
In the first pic below, you will see the 4x4/2wd output shafts, snap ring, front planet, 3/4 clutch hub, sunshell removed and on the bench....
In the second pic the center support is left in the case.
