No problem. Let me see if I understand correctly.
Here's a picture of a latch assembly upside down. The pull tab part is at the end of the arm, is this what you cut off so there's nothing to grab?
Then you drilled a hole in the arm closer to the latch... and using a bolt and cable you can pull arm that way?
Cable is mounted forward of latch so it pulls it forward?
