Ive heard of timing chains jumping a tooth before but have never actually seen it. Almost sounds like a timing issue with it backfiring out of the carb. My 1990 when i got it had a weird running issue to it, was kinda missing and felt like the trans was shifting funny. Anyways started replacing parts and when i swapped computers it ran fine.
If you give up on that truck and sell it I’m sure people would love to have it. Mines about to fall apart soon and will be looking for a replacement within a year or two
