They don't have to be offset.

Double cardan joints are common on 4x4's where angle is extreme enough that it would wear a regular pair of joints out quickly.

They were also used on Cadillacs in the 60's and 70's to minimize vibration.

I built some shafts for a buddies Ford Bronco Cummins conversion. He hasn't complained. Sorry no pictures.
