I did a little research. Some trucks have an access panel in the HVAC housing to reach the heater core with out taking the HVAC housing out of the truck.

My 96 C3500HD has that access panel. My 99 K2500 does not.

My 96 was built in Janesville.
My 99 was built in Flint.
