To be honest I don't remember GM having a dash pad that light in color. We tend to design dash pads in the darker colors in an attempt to control how much they get reflected back onto the windshield. Take a white sheet of paper and lay it on the dash and you will see what I mean.

I say all this to say you might prefer the darker pad, even though it might not be technically "correct". I suspect I would.
