I used to use the GM product called "Top Engine Cleaner" or some such name that you poured down the carb at high idle and gassed out all the neighbors with huge plumes of white smoke. They stopped selling the stuff in California a couple years ago,but I know a GMC parts guy that stockpiled some. That stuff REALLY works to clean out carbon.
