I just bought a lokar kit for my LS swap with a 6L90E.
I moved my engine forward a few inches, and the rod was still too short. I ended up bending the rod and cutting my original rod and welding them together.
A word of warning though. You need adjustment somewhere. It can be on the column end or the transmission end, but your detents may not line up without it. This is why I bought the lokar kit. It came with the spherical bearings and the adjustable arm for the transmission.
