I put the left side trunion on first, then I always get someone to help and hold the tailgate in the position like it is when open, then tilt it upward on the right side with the left side of tailgate pocket mounted onto the trunion. The put the right side trunion onto the tailgate a slide it slowly downward into position where you can mount the two bolts that hold the right trunion onto the bedside. Hope that's not to confusing.
