Very intriguing idea for a "custom" mirror look. I did not show the ends of the mount tube in the pics as did not think about that aspect. The outside stainless tube is hollow with a second reinforcing tube inserted inside. I inserted a 7/16" threaded rod in the opening and it went in to a 3 and 3/4'' depth. Thinking using either JB Weld, a two part epoxy mix or similar with the full 3 3/4'' threaded rod length inserted and proper amount of thread exiting the tube it would be very easy to do such a mounting as you suggest. No need to drill and tap, should be a very easy, quick job to attach a threaded rod insert. Let me know if you have other questions and thanks for the interest.
