To set the facts straight here the stereo AM-FM radio didn't appear in the pickups till 1978ish or 1979. Might have been the redesign of the front doors in 1977 that allowed the stereo speakers too. They were mono radios and the first factory stereo speakers are surface mounted speakers and color keyed grills on both front door panels near the window crank area. The 1973 -76 were absolutely just a mono radio and speaker system just as the 1971-1972 factory AM-FM radio was. And stereo 8 tracks in pickups were just 1978-1980. The new cassettes were all the rage by 1977 and the factory installed radios were slow to catch up. The 8 track radios faded away to cassette radios nearly overnight.
