From the picture, the gap looks okay to me. Could try to move the side but you'll have to undo bolts and cut the welded spot. Most of the trucks of that era that I've seen had large gaps in all areas. The sheet metal in my 68 GMC is an example. It's all stock and alignment is not the best. The manufacturers didn't spend a lot of time on aligning sheet metal like they do newer vehicles since the trucks were primarily used for work in those days.
