Does the seller get taxed on what they sell? Yes they do. But when someone shops at a store, the cost of the sales tax is rolled over to the buyer. The buyer does nothing with their tax statement, the seller does, but the seller charges sales tax to the buyer.

To answer your question; The seller would be completely in their rights to advertise an item for whatever they want. Do you have a $100 item you want to sell? You could either ask $110 for it, or ask $100 and lose $10 on the sale.
