I ran a piece of 3/16 steel plate behind the firewall on mine when I had the firewall mounted master cylinder. Joedoe isn't woofing there without decent support that firewall will really flex. One of the first ones I ever saw with a firewall mounted master cylinder cracked the firewall out around it. Actually that is the reason I saw it. a friend had it ins his shop trying to figure out how to fix it and add enough strength it wouldn't happen again.
I used the largest piece of plate I could stick in there to spread the pressure out over a large area.
