Square body K30 GM pickups had the Dana 60 front axle, single or dual rear wheels truck. If your serial number backs up the 1 ton "30 series" then I would think someone swapped the front out at some time.
I've had 1 or more K30's in my drive continuously since 1977. I currently have 2, again.
Your truck is like one of my old 1/2 ton plow trucks,(It is an 1980 truck in pic), in that if it is a 78, it has many parts on it that are not 78 as seen in your picture.
