The notch pictured had not yet been "finished"... the bottom portion you are referring to is welded in as part of the notch, along with with the two top plates that bolt to the top side of the factory frame rails. Due to the contour of the chassis I use a factory frame as the "jig"... I will be cutting this frame in half shortly so my "jig" won't take up as much space!
