Back in the day barrel clips were hit and miss on cars and trucks. I think it all was related to the plant they were manufactured in. I used barrel clips to put on my custom 20 and deluxe fender emblems . Much easier than basically taking the fender 90% off. And since there was two still in the holes I figured it cam that way.
My Chevelle which I bought in 84 with original paint didnt have the blacked out deck opening panel like 99% of ss cars did . GM and all the others didnt have exact specs from plant to plant
