One think to considered, IF you are replacing or spending much money on cleaning up the crank, it is just as cheap to build a 383 with and iron or cast steel crank. The extra cubes really help torque production for a work truck.
Other have mentioned Vortec heads and are spot on with that advice. Don't need to port them or anything else. They will make your SBC much more responsive and efficient. Good luck with the build.
