It's been going on forever. My dad used to upholster pre-war cars, almost exclusively. He'd do the newer stuff for family, of course. One guy he knew wanted his Model A upholstered. He asked what my dad wanted, got a price, and then said, "I can mark it up $100, easy, for anyone else who wants it done!". Cheeky bugger, that's for sure! My dad said he'd only deal directly with the owner of the vehicle. Same guy drove up unannounced and
parked on the lawn instead of the driveway and expected to leave it right then for the job. My dad was more than a little annoyed, and told him to pack it off. He never did get my dad to do his car's upholstery.
