Re: does anyone offer an overdrive gear set for saginaw 4 speed with granny gear

>>the OD unit can be adapted to the Saginaw 4 speeds<< CAR Saginaw.

Are you not talking about a 4X4 with the SM465 truck trans? You'd play hell getting the T-85 3-sp OD on the back of the SM465 and then you would probably have to use a divorced transfer case.

The A-833 is the Chrysler car 4-spd used in their cars in the '60s and '70s. The A-833 OD is still a car 4-spd, but was also used in Chevy and Dodge trucks.
4th gear is still 1:1 , but is called 3rd. 3rd is regeared and called 4th as the OD.
You end up with what Cableguy was explaining. With your SM465 you drive 90% of the time using 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Pretend you have an OD that is above 4th. Drive around using only 2nd, 4th and OD.
The A-833 with OD has a pretty good step, but not as big and it does have a usable 1st gear. The A-833 OD probably works good in a light car, but I don't think it makes a good truck trans. The regular A-833 is unbreakable as a car trans and has good gear spacing for that.
There are several on the Stovebolt forum that use the A-833 OD and claim they love it, but there are some that quietly replaced it with a 5spd.
Again, you would be looking at a divorced Transfer case.

Wouldn't an NV4500 4x4 5spd be a mostly bolt up conversion?
