I ran GM ATF as I read was used from the factory. I blew 2nd gear apart after about 500 miles. I will never know if it was the wrong fluid or a weak part or what but once I got it rebuilt I went with 80W90 non synthetic gear oil, which is what was recommended by the guy (Jamie from Passon Performance) who sold me the rebuild parts, told me to run. So far, no issues.
Incidentally, I bought a second MY6 because of the scarcity of parts. It is out of a Camaro - so I am told - and it has the GM/Dodge bell housing bolt pattern. It is still filled with ATF.
