can connect anywhere you want it to, it really doesnt matter, on the long water pump engines it connects to upper alternator bracket in most cases, and see them connected on the older engines down near the fuel pump alot,
but not in the 84 maro, and other newer vehicles sometimes, it connects to the front of pass side head, i moves it to driver side when I replaced it because it was longer, i didnt want to shorten it hehe,

you can bolt it to wherever you want really, make surew where you mounbt it is dirt rust and grease free though ! wd40 is good to spray wherever to prevent corrosion, same for all electrical plugs and connections etc etc
