A large cap HEI will fit with a small block in the original location. Some guys freak out about it being close so they go and move the engine and trans forward. I don't think it is close enough to be worried about.

I would stay with the original style short water pump and also an original replacement starter. No need for any special clutch, just a stock style 11" clutch should be fine as long as you have a 168 tooth flywheel. Oh and have the flywheel surfaced.
