The beauty of doing it this way is you can get nice stock wire holders that run along the block tucked in nicely and don't get burnt up. I've replaced gobs of burnt up wire sets because they ran on top of the hot exhaust manifolds. Stock heat shields are a must for longevity. This is what I did as well after researching recommendations on the board. I just used good old AC Delco wires and have had not complaints yet.
