If it's a trailer queen, leave your driving slippers on the running board when you get out so they are ready for you to reenter.
If it's a driver, paint it and use it. This can be easily polished and or repainted if it gets too damaged.
If it's a garbage dump hauler and construction site inspection vehicle, throw a piece of plywood or carpet on it.
The only time it's going to be seen is when the door is open so I'd not be concerned about it.
