Look under the 'hoe at the shift linkage, it could be getting jammed.

Also, if they're the type of person who rests their arm on the auto shifter while driving, it may need a couple parts replaced?

It could also be the ignition switch (key) getting worn... or....it could be the neutral safety switch going bad? *IF* there is one, I have no idea where it is located.

Just tossing out ideas, I've never heard of this before (and I frequent GM-Trucks.com)

I can't think of any logical reason why it would go into gear in cool weather and not hot???
