I battled hard starts for a while and when I replaced fuel filter that helped get fuel into bowl quicker after pumping the gas pedal a couple times. I am not saying it will not work just saying those threads on filter housing strip out so easily.

The check valve is small and fits into filter. Some filters come with or without. You can see it here.
