Okay so I just noticed something that concerns me. Do all adapters have bearings in them? I recently just did this job (first time working on a transfer case) and when I took mine apart it was 2 seals and the coupler that connects the TC to the th350... no bearings. You could see that the seal that keeps the tranny fluid from the TC was dog eared. So i put it back the same way with new seals and it has been working good with no leaks.

However, it would not surprise me one bit that it is missing the 2 bearings in the adapter. It looks like the previous owner attempted to fix the leak recently and by what I have seen so far everything he touched is now questionable.
