The problem with finding "correct" information for items like this is that, like many things on vehicles this age...items often times have been repainted (& maybe sandblasted during prep), replaced, ect. Having been around several trucks with known, factory condition...I can say this:
From what I've seen, these parts were Zinc plated when made, installed & then painted with the rest of the truck...thus the parts & bolts are painted. One "flaw" that I've seen is that the Zinc appeared to not be prepped & the use of a primer that adhered well to the Zinc was not used, so much of the paint fell off...especially where any contact or rubbing took place.
So Painted & Painted is the word. Lorne
