Old school hotrod is white, and of course there's the checkerboard look. Go over to the HAMB for examples (though I admit I wouldn't do checkerboard).
If you want to get fancy and since your firewall is flat a cool idea might be a big engine turned panel adhered to the surface (Man, we're good at spending other guy's money, huh?)
