Ok, so that is the brown wire which also powers the front marker lights, I don't know is that fused? Could it have blown when you were working on the short at the left front?
Did you test the rear light pins to see if you have power to the pin?
Its unlikely but you could have 2 bad bulbs from the short in the front, its the same circuit.
