Don't know what you're talking about with this "thin interior door shell". Are you referring to the metal frames around each piece of glass?

As for taking this on, it shouldn't be a problem if you're relatively mechanically inclined and can access YouTube videos. It's all shown there. If you're the kind of guy that looks awkward holding a screwdriver - like my brother-in-law, lol - then take it to a shop. Otherwise, have at it. It's the only way to learn. Be patient, have WD40 or some other lubricant for rusted fasteners and you'll be fine.
