The torque rod mounts to one of the bellhousing bolts. Often times they never get put back on when reinstalling the trans/t-case. Is it needed? Probably not, but GM thought it was a good idea for it to be on there if that tells you anything.

I have one on my '70 Jimmy project. It's on a 4500/208 combo...but same concept. I clocked the t-case up a little and had to add a small spacer behind the rod where it mounts to the bell, from the factory it would have been flat against it.





Edit: I'm assuming you figured out/know how it mounts on the t-case. It uses the two big holes/bolts on the flat spot of the passenger side of the case.
