On the seal, he should be able to source a proper seal locally by measuring and fitting the seal to the hub and spindle.
I've got a set of the same caliper brackets and don't think there is a left and right but he might compare them and see if they are made to only go on one side for a good fit.
Did he buy all the parts from the same source or did he mix and match parts?
