The factory original converters were not painted at all, Just an ID sticker.
It's probably converter shudder (The converter clutch itself), Have a local converter builder install a Woven Carbon Clutch in yours.......If this was a 30 spline input, You could use a off the shelf '98-'01 298mm 4L60E converter, But a '85 700R4 is 27 spline.
