I had that reoccurring issue. It progressively got worse until the truck refused to start, and had to be towed home.

From there I diagnosed the problem to a failed fuel pump. Once I replaced it, I've never had vapor lock symptoms again. And I live in the Arizona desert, and that was probably 4 - 5 years ago!

Apparently, a pump can show these symptoms as a precursor to complete failure. I don't know if I'd performed a pressure test if I would've seen any problems.
