They keep the top outer edge of the sail panel from flopping around and hold them tight to the cab. They just fit on over the back edge of the sail panel.

What I did was after I marked location and drilled/mounted was lossen them up just enough I could slide the top edge of the sail panel underneath. then add the 3 screws that mount the sail to the cab and the 4th screw on the outside of the cab.

if you look at pic 4 on post 1....there is a slight bump in the retainer. Its so the retainer lays flat against the cab and the sail panel goes underneath the "bump". That's why I just used some old flat cab sheet metal and it worked just fine.
