Longhorns aren't all that rare - way more than 500 made. You really need to check all the typical areas for rust - above the windshield, rockers, cab corners, floor, etc. Not too long ago I bought one here in California that ran ok, with the original big block, for $1000. i had a hard time selling it for $2000, and that's after I did a lot of stuff to it. Price seems quite steep from your description of it.
