WOW! Sorry for the NEVER update guys! I'm a huge procrastinator and completely forgot about this thread.

Ok, I sold the truck that I was having issues with, so the donor column is still torn apart in my basement. I still have a 70 longbed that it will go in when finished. I used the 3 speed adjustment article and it solved my shifting problems so I just dealt with the column slop issues. Then got overall burnt out on the truck so she's gone. Now I'm looking for another. Found a 72 shortbed automatic truck I may trade my 57 VW for, but we'll wait and see what happens on that one. In the meantime I'll try to get motivated and update this thread soon. Sorry again for slacking.
