Set aside the big/better, need to brag, one-upness, machismo, need to compensate for other short comings, etc, and you will find a motor that runs longer, moves a truck right along just fine, and gets fuel economy a 350 can't touch. I've heard the same about never rebuild a 307. Well, I did and it was a memorable motor. I gave it added pep, didn't hurt/maybe helped fuel economy, sounded great (got comments all the time). Yeah I probably ended up with stock 350 power, but I enjoyed the build, how it wound out, and 13 mpg in a '71 K/20 with 4.57s,37/14.50 rubber, utility bed full of tools, materials in the bed, and ladders/scaffold on the racks. I always wanted to try that motor in a shortbed 2wd.

Thanks. Now I have another word to go look up.
My father bought a new El Camino in 1968 that had the 307, it was a damn good motor. They were an under square motor, 283 block with a 327 crank which made them quite torquey for a 2 barreled carb engine.

1968 - 1971 with 2 Barrel Carb
Max Brake Horsepower: 200 @ 5800 rpm
Max Torque: 300 @ 4200 rpm
Stroke: 3.25
Bore: 3.875
Compression: 9.00
Firing Order: 18436572
