Please, go down to his shop. Take the bellhousing and hold it up against the back of your engine. All six bolt holes and both dowel holes will line up. Ask him what the problem is.

Heck, as long as your six wasn't a 292 and the small block has a two piece rear main, you can even reuse the existing flywheel and bolts and clutch and starter.

I'm not just an internet cowboy here. I've done this swap plenty of times. I've actually done this swap this month !
