I sprayed my Step area with the rattle can bedliner after stripping them and primed and painted with the rustoleum also drilled a 1/4" hole in the corners for drainage prior to the coatings.
If you were to put the pricy polished strips, Id carry a patch of carpet as Foot stomper suggested to protect them from scratches , Kindda defeats what your trying to do.
If I were to paint them nice , might try Ogres cover or could use anti slip tape as used on stair treads, they have clear,brown, black, and glow in the dark.... I think just 1" on the top of the ribs would look nice.
