ya, I agree with you there Brian, not too much work to just get fine threads but if you want fine threads that will hold a door it is a bigger job for sure. it is sort of like stripping a nut and then chasing thre threads and using it anyway. it would probably work but it would fail under a load. there would be too many threads cut in the hole to make it reliable after.
just use course thread bolts and carry on. flange head bolts are fairly cheap anyway. some have serrated flanges as well to hold tight better.
