We used 3/8 thick red oak.It was installed as a floating floor. We used 1/8"x3" steel strips that fit width ways on the floor.Attatched T bolts,by weld, in the spacing needed for the hold down strips. The strips where like the ones for a truck bed.layed the boards over the 1/8' steel strips. We then used polished SS angle at the front and back to hold the floor .the SS strips where layed lenth ways and held to the T-bolts with polished SS cap nuts.No holes had to be drilled in the floor except for the front and rear angles.
